There are a many companies that offer dialup service in Guatemala. A couple of them offer FREE accounts you only need to pay for the phone call.  From Xela the call cost Q.51/minute which comes out to be Q30/hour.  Here are 3 companies that offer this service:

Phone Services

You can make International Phone calls from many Internet cafés in town.  The prices are normally Q1.00 to the USA and Q2.00 to Europe.  You can also make calls at the local Telgua offices around town.  Telgua is a the National telephone company.

Cellular Phone Services

Cellular phones are inexpensive in Guatemala and can be purchased by anyone with a passport.  I know of no companies in Xela that rent cell phones by the week or month.  There are 3 main companies in Guatemala sell Cellular services.  All 3 offer prepaid phone cards with their cellular service.

Bell South - Least expensive for national calls Q.20 to Q.50/min and least expensive for calls to the USA Q1.00/minute.  Cost of the phone is Q400 and normally includes 200 minutes.

PCS Digital by Telgua - This company has the best coverage but they are also the most expensive.  Phones can be purchased for Q500 and calls are Q1.00/min within Guatemala and Q4.00/min to the USA.

Comcel - Not the most expensive, not the least expensive with ok coverage.
