1. "Christmas 1998 in Guatemala" Tom
========================================
"How I spent my Christmas Vacation in Guatemala" In December, a large portion of my family came to visit us in Guatemala.
We had my Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle,
The following is a quick rundown of what we did and the cost. Everyone arrived in Guatemala City on the night of the December 18th. We stayed at Dos Lunas Guest House a very clean place that I highly
recommend. For $10.00/person you get free transportation to/from
the airport, clean comfortable room in the house of a Guatemalan family,
and a nice

Las Brisas is a very nice, reasonably priced, hotel one block off Central
Park. The rooms were clean and the service was excellent. One thing
to remember: Ask the owner in the morning to spark up the hot water, before
you take a shower! We stayed here for 2 nights.
The next day we hired a guide named Douglas Javier Ramos to show us
the ruins of Copán. Douglas gave an
Douglas walked us all around the site giving us an up close look at
ancient Mayan art, architecture and customs. Well worth the price
of admission!

We arrived in Puerto Barrios around 1:30pm just in time to load our
stuff on to a boat headed for Livingston 40 minutes away. In Livingston
we stayed at Casa Rosada. This was a wonderful place with 8 or 10
individual bungalows set around a restaurant right on the waters edge.
We had dinner in the restaurant that evening and for Q100 or $15 you could
have a huge lobster, several in the group had them and love it!
The next morning we loaded up again into a boat and headed up the Rio Dulce for a 2 hour ride. This is a magnificent boat ride from the Livingston up to Lake Isabel. You see plenty of birds we even got a glimpse of a Toucan. We also got the show of a lifetime when we pulled up on a group of fishermen who were trying to catch this man size fish. I did not get a great picture but I did get one of the head. Pictures of fish: http://www.xelapages.com/trip/ At the end of this boat ride you arrive at Castillo de San Felipe, which
is, an old restored castle that was
That evening we headed back to Antigua and stayed at the Hotel San Sebastian.

The next morning we rented another van for the rest of the trip without

The following is a listing of five Guatemalan travel guides,
that in my opinion are some of the best. Included is a link where
you can read about these guides and buy them directly from the web using
Amazon.com. You really should not visit Guatemala without picking
up at least one, if not two of these guides.
